Finding the opportunity is the easy part of becoming successful. The challenge lies in what you do with that opportunity.

A career in modeling can be hugely exciting. Imagine a job where you get paid to travel, have adventures, make great friends and work with creative and interesting people.

Modeling is also often used as a stepping-stone to other job opportunities within the fashion and entertainment industries, and can easily work in with other initial focuses such as school or university.

But, like any career, it has its challenges. That’s where the Red11 team comes in. It’s our job to help you and your family understand the business of modeling, to guide you through all its ups and downs so that it becomes one of the most exciting journeys you could ever hope to embark on.

There are certain ingredients you must possess to be able to succeed in modeling. These are:

  • you must be reasonably tall – ideally, females should be between 5’8” and 5’11, males between 6’ and 6’2”
  • you must possess a natural beauty – models don’t have to be conventionally beautiful but they all have something interesting and attractive about their faces that sets them apart
  • you must have a naturally slim body shape
  • you must possess drive and determination
  • you should have a strong support network – through family and/or partners; and, most importantly
  • you must have a pleasant personality

To help you further, here are answers to the questions we are most often asked.

Q:
What if I am not tall enough?
A:
I f you fall above or below the ideal height, you can still make an enquiry. There are short and tall models who do well despite their height. However, because clothing samples come in a standard size, a client will usually choose a model who fits the clothes straight away rather than one who needs them to be adjusted. Having said that, it is rare but not unknown for a client to be willing to alter garments just because a model has the ‘right’ look.
Height isn’t nearly as essential in advertising or television work as it is in modeling. If you don’t suit the requirements for modeling but are passionate about acting, you can still pursue a career in entertainment.

Q:
Why is it so important that my body shape is naturally slim?
A:
Unfortunately, if you do not fit the designers’ samples, you will struggle to get work in modeling.

Q:
What about plus-size modeling?
A:
Yes, Red11 works with plus-size models, but you must still be of a reasonable height and proportion.

Q:
What makes a person naturally beautiful?
A:
As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But while makeup can make models look more beautiful, the most successful models still look beautiful without a scrap of makeup on at all. Different designers and clients look for different models for their campaigns from season to season, campaign to campaign. Beauty can be defined in perfect teeth to gaps in teeth, porcelain skin to loads of freckles, blonde hair to red hair…

Q:
My main focus is on studying. How does modeling fit in with school or university?
A:
Because many models often start young, it is imperative that we work with you and your family. The commitments you identify together are of the utmost importance. Red11 places a lot of value on working not just with the model, but also with his or her designated family member. This ensures a strong relationship based on trust, and increases everyone’s chances at success.

Q:
What if I am nervous that I might not be good enough?
A:
Better to have knocked on the door and know what’s behind it than never to have knocked and wondered what could have been. In other words, if you don’t try, you won’t find out!

Q:

What makes a good model?

A:
As mentioned, a model must be of reasonable height, have a natural beauty and a slim body shape, and possess strong family support. A good model also has drive, determination and a pleasant personality. Top this off with a professional attitude, and you will not only be a good model, you’ll be a great model.

Q:
What if I think my friend should also be a model?
A:
If you enquire for your friend, and we end up taking on your friend as a model, you will score a cool Red11 model bag packed with goodies both for yourself and for your friend. Email or send us a pic of you and your friend (don’t forget to include your contact details) to find out more.

Q:
I’m keen. How do I make an enquiry?
A:
Send us some basic, close-up and full-length snapshots of yourself. Be sure to wear as little makeup as possible, and have someone you trust (and who is excited for you) take the pictures.
